Habitat for Humanity Mississauga’s goal is to build 15 new affordable homes by 2015.
Following the successful completion of our first home in Streetsville, the Habitat Mississauga board engaged in a full-day Strategic Planning session in November 2009 to determine next steps.
In accordance with our mission, it was determined that we should set ourselves a challenging, yet realistic, goal. At the same time we recognized that this could only be achieved if, as is happening with other Habitat affiliates across the country, we build in multiples.
Given the price of land in Mississauga, in order to build truly decent, affordable homes we need to maximize land usage. To that end the Habitat Mississauga board has now struck a number of project teams, one of which is dedicated to developing a land/build strategy to take to our local government partners.
“Building more single-family homes is just not the way to go", says Dan Menard who was the first chair of the new Land Development Committee. "In order for Habitat to begin addressing the need for affordable housing in Mississauga we have to be thinking about creative ways to develop sustainable multi-family projects on infill and redevelopment sites”.
Having enjoyed excellent working relationships with our many corporate partners during our first build, Habitat Mississauga is always open to partnerships with other organizations.
