Annual Youth Writing Contest
- Why do you think volunteering is important? Tell us! We want to know what you think!
- In our first annual writing contest for youth, Habitat for Humanity Mississauga asks the thought provoking question: Why is Volunteering Important? Do you think it's important to you as a person? Is it important to your family? Your community? Your country? The world? Maybe you think volunteering isn't important at all! We want to know what you think!
- Entries may be in any written form you choose (i.e. essay, poem, song) but must be between 50 and 300 words in length
- Contest is open to all youth 21 years of age and under currently residing in the City of
Mississauga
- Entries must be original and written entirely by the contestant
- All entries must be received by midnight on April 30, 2012
- Entries must be submitted by email to: info@habitatmississauga.ca. Please indicate "Youth
Writing Contest" in the subject line.
- All entries will become the property of Habitat for Humanity Mississauga
- Prizes will be awarded in the following age categories:
- 10 years and under
- 11-15 years
- 16-21 years
- Winning entries will be published on our website and will receive a $100 gift certificate from American Eagle Outfitters

Opportunities for Youth to Volunteer with Habitat for Humanity Mississauga
- We have some amazing, fun and exciting opportunities for you if you would like to become a volunteer with HFHM.
- Would you like to Build A House??
- As long as you are over 16 years of age you can help us build affordable housing in
Mississauga. We will teach you skills that will last you a life time in a fun and safe environment.
- Would you like to Work in our ReStore??
- Here you can learn the skills that you will set you up for a career in the retail industry and
will look great on your resume. You must be over 16 years of age to apply as a ReStore
volunteer.
- Need to Complete Your Required Volunteer Hours to Graduate High School?
- We can help you with that too!! But there is a catch. We want you to be as committed to
Habitat as we promise to be to you! If you agree to volunteer 50 hours to help us fulfill our
mission we will promise to give you meaningful volunteer work , a chance to learn new skills and meet your graduation requirements.
- Great, So Now What Do I Do?
- Simple, just fill out our on-line volunteer form and our Volunteer Coordinator will be in touch with you shortly!
- But I'm not 16 yet and I still want to help!
- Not 16? Not a problem. There are still lots of ways you can volunteer and contribute to
HFHM, depending on what projects we have happening at any given time. Drop a quick
email to our Volunteer Coordinator at : vol@habitatmississauga.ca and they will get back to you with some ways that you can help!!
Are you, or your school or church looking for a worthy cause to raise funds for?

Curious About Fundraising Opportunities for Habitat Mississauga?
- Our goal is to build 15 affordable homes in Mississauga by 2015. In order to do that we need
the help of our community. There are many things you can do to support our mission:
- Hold a garage sale
- Have a bake sale or a car wash
- Host a teen dance
- Challenge another group to raise more money than you can
- Start an athletic challenge such as a 5 km run or walk
Are you a youth councillor at a school or community organization in Mississauga? Are you interested in starting a Habitat Club at your college or university in Mississauga?
